Chlamydial Infection

Chlamydia infection one of the most common sexually transmitted infection.
Causative organisms-
Chlamydia trichomatis (gram negative bacteria)
Incubation period-
6 to 14 days
Site of infection-
Ascending infection, vagina,cervix, fallopian tubes,anus, urethra, throat,or eye.
Indication-
1)Chlamydia is highest among women between 15-24years old.
2)Prevalence groups 
A)Who have more than one sexual partner.
B)Whose sexual partner have more than one partner.
C)Who don't use condoms.
D)With a history of STIs.
Transmission- 
Through unprotected sex-passed through vaginal,anal,and oral sex.
To baby during delivery.
It can also be passed to the eye by a hand or other body part moistened with infection secretions.
Symptoms---
Asymptomatic-usually Chlamydia doesn't have symptoms
But,when occurs it can include:
 Postcoital bleeding
Intermenstrual bleeding
Pain in the abdomen
Pain during intercourses (Dyspareunia)
Fever
Dysuria
A burning feeling when urinating
The need to urinate more than usual
Mucopurulent discharge from the vagina
Pain, itching, bleeding and/or mucus discharge of the rectum.
Redness, itching,and/or discharge of the eyes.
Diagnosis-
Culture-samples from the urine,vaginal swab ,or cervical discharge
Nucleic acid amplification technique.
Treatment--
Azithromycin 1gm single dose in pregnancy.
Amoxycilline 500mg TDS for days or
Ofloxacin 200mg BD for days or
Doxycycline 100mg BD for 7 days
